1: Mari embodies the excited, cheerful, child like innocence within myself. A lot of things make it pop up, such as animals being funny or cute, human beings being good to each other, or even just a new game coming out. Basically that giddy feeling that makes you squeak excitedly over something good.
2: Mari's personality and design are inspired by a lot of different thing, but I think one of her major inspirations is Ed from Cowboy Bebop. While she isn't as zanny, she certainly does share a similar "feel" and role in narratives in which she stars.
3: While I've had a general idea of what I wanted Mari to look like, her current design was created by the artist
. I gave her the general build, personality traits, and colors and asked her to put it all together, design an outfit for her, and then rub some of her own style on it. The result was the top image which became the bases for every picture that's been made for her since. Thanks again Dreaming!
4: Though she is extremely cheerful and tries to find the bright side of everything, Mari knows that sometimes there is nothing she can do to help people in terrible situations. She is sensitive enough to people's feelings to know when trying to cheer them up would be pointless and the only thing she can do is share their pain. She is a total "bleeding heart" as some might say.
5: Above being said she isn't beyond beating up bad guys if she has to, depending on the story she's in, and will fight to protect the smiles of others. (Took that from Kamen Rider Kuuga, just so you know.) On occasions like this her love for super hero shows tends to bleed through and she isn't beyond making passionate speeches. That said she even feels for the bad guys and will even ask if they are alright after she's laid them out on the floor. She's a good girl like that.
6: She likes airy clothes that give her plenty of freedom to move around and is the sort of person who will do a cartwheel while walking just because it's fun. She is very energetic and emotive, sometimes communicating more with body language than words. That said she can go on long rants when excited and will unintentionally make cute noises sometimes when doing things, like making stirring noises when stirring something or "beep bop" noises when typing. (Someone else might do that sometimes...though I doubt it's very cute when he does...meh, I think its fun.)
7: I've never quite got romance right with her as it isn't a focus of her character for me. I've tried a few characters but nothing has ever quite stuck, though the closest I got was a shy, nervous guy who she had to drag along on adventures. Even than I feel like she would be the sort of person who wouldn't be all shy and coy about her feelings and would just start stealing kisses one day, like it was natural. She would probably realize there was a spark there before the guy did honestly. "I know. I've known for a long time. Just waiting for you to realize it...or work up the nerve to tell me. You always were a slow poke!" that sort of sickeningly adorable thing that I secretly love. ...Oops.
8: I almost always have her in the same story as two of my other character, Katsu and Satoshi. They are the bread and peanut butter to her jelly, if that makes sense. Katsu is this rough and tumble Clint Eastwood style character who is like that dog that growls at you on a porch that you feel like knows more about what you're feeling than you do yourself. Or Godzilla. Either, Or. Satoshi is a calm and collected sort who tends to ruminate on matters of life, love, and the nature of being to the point he sometimes forgets himself in the process. He's sort of the warrior-poet type even though instead of poetry he tends to express himself either through sushi or music production. (Depends on my mood really and the story in question.) The dynamic between these three is something I've been trying to refine for years and was inspired by my dislike of main character tropes and love of the set up in the anime Samurai Champloo in which all three main character somehow equally share the spot light. Another series that did this surprisingly well was Kamen Rider Agito, though not to the same degree. It was really close though! Anyway these two are like Mari's big brothers that will always stand by her side and be there for her. She also sometimes has Hanako, another character of mine, as a pseudo-big sister type character. Hanako is almost Mari's polar opposite, being moody, calm, and a bit apathetic. She's a good person though and cares deeply for her friends, the above trip most of all.
Anyway, that's enough ranting for now. I actually thought about just linking Zhil 8 times and calling it a day, but honestly learning more about your characters and, as Zhil put it, building bridges might be fun. So...I guess I'll open my watch list and start clicking faces of people I at least somewhat know. Or just people I'm a fan of. Seems fair. So in no specific order!
To those who are totally into this sort of thing, have fun. To those who are asking "Who dis? Why dis? Wha-Wha?" Don't worry about. Go, live your lives, let your legends be remembered forever. Or something like that, I don't know. I personally blame Zihilism, and you should to.
